March 2009. Prees Realease By Roberto Palmitesta The outstanding Venezuelan pianist and singer triumphed in Paris, London, Czech Republic and Holland. She closed her tour around Spain this Friday. The renowned Venezuelan singer and pianist has just come from a successful series of presentations in various important venues in France, Czech Republic, Holland and England leaving her nation in a high stand. During the tour that will end in Spain, she presented a repertoire of several tunes from her new album “Piano En Canto Venezolano” in addition to the most popular songs from her three previous albums, “Piano Jazz Venezolano II”, “Estoy Aquí” and “Piano En Canto Venezolano”. Prisca made her first appearance on February 16th in Paris. The concert was organized by the “Creartefact” association created by singer Elvita Delgado, a Venezuelan artist who has lived in France for many years. During the recital, Prisca surprised the French audience by her elegant way of playing the piano, her enchanting voice and the diversity of sounds coming out of Venezuelan music. The Paris concert was followed by a performance in the prestigious Bolívar Hall in London. Sponsored by the Venezuelan Embassy, Prisca received an ovation by the British audience and the Latin American community who attended the concert invited by the Embassy. Perhaps the most successful segment of the tour was her concert in Prague, Czech Republic. She performed on February 23rd at a famous nightclub where the Czech audience was astonished by the diversity of Venezuelan rhythms. The next day, they played a long concert at Prague’s most important venue, the Jazz Reduta Club” The public, who was invited by the Embassy, sang happily along songs like “Montilla” and “Pikirillo”, besides dancing to the joropo rhythm. Prisca’s younger sister,Marieva, made a pleasant appearance dancing a flamenco fusion. The act was a novelty to the Czech public. “It surprises me the way cities like Prague that has such an academic tradition go crazy about our rhythms, specially the merengue and the joropo. You have to see how they move their bodies. They have shown an interest in our music. At the end of each concert, I was approached by musicians and professors”, declared Prisca. Prisca was accompanied by a band of a very high level that included Miguel Hernández on drums, Heriberto Rojas on upright bass, Roberto Castillo on percussion and backing vocals, her sister Marieva Dávila as a dancer and backing vocals and her father Eduardo Dávila on saxophones, flute and backing vocals as well. Another passionate moment during her European concert occurred on Friday 6th, Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th in Holland when she joined the band of Venezuelan percussionist Gerardo Rosales. Prisca sang the tune “Arepas” included in Gerardo’s latest outing “Salsa Mundial”. She also performed a duet with Rosales in the songs “El Negro José” by Aldemaro Romero; “Caramba” from “Piano En Canto Venezolano”; and “El Chisme”. The later one is a tune from the percussionist’s new CD. During her participation in the salsa genre, she did backing vocals on the tunes where Gerardo Rosales’s orchestra jammed. “I am astonished by Prisca’s capacity to interpret different musical genres. There are very few singers that can fit vocals to sing the style salsa demands the way she did it. Many Dutchmen fell in love with her”, said Gerardo Rosales. The final part came as she stepped on Spanish land when she visited the city of Madrid. It was on March, Friday 13th when she stroke her keyboard accompanied by her father Eduardo who played sax and flute along percussionist Hilda Hernández and bassist Manuel Torcat. The group performed at two cultural associations in Madrid: Entredós Fundación and Yemayá. |
