EL IMPULSO | Keren Torres Bravo

Prisca’s   third album entitled "Piano En Canto Venezolano" is just out of the oven.  Arranged  and produced by Williams Sigismondi, she now presents  melodies from the diverse music genres of her native Venezuela.  In spite of the fact that she lent her voice to three songs in her previous album, Estoy Aquí, she sings all the songs this time around  without leaving her piano playing out.  Instead, she offers it  a starring role thanks to her inspiration and sensibility at the moment when playing it comes.

JAZZ/PRISCA DÁVILA
Barcelona (España), El país, 1 de noviembre de 2004
GOOD TASTE

Prisca Dávila would be a name to remember if it weren’t because Venezuela is, mediatically speaking, so far from Barcelona.  We know very little about the musical events that take place in that country so the pianist presentation in our city has been one of the most pleasant surprises of the season.
Dávila has just recorded a magnificent CD entitled Piano Jazz Venezolano and demonstrated at the jamboree that the benefits of a recording gain power before a live audience.  She enwraps herself in a highly contagious Latin jazz rooted in her native Venezuela with a precise pianistic technique without free ornaments where traditional rhythms are delivered with a powerful swing far from stridency but plenty of great taste and elegance.
She kicked off alone performing a danceable Venezuelan waltz, despite her shameless classical tendency, to be joined later on by a bassist, a percussionist and a drummer who perfectly assembled with her to form a quartet.
Dávila played effortlessly within the foursome often coming and going from contemporary jazz to merengue frequently enlightening her performance.
Davila played original compositions as well as others written by her father Eduardo Dávila and a Viennese pianist and composer adopted by Venezuela who we must include in a list of names to be discovered: Gerry Weil.
